The Office of Evangelization and Catechesis (OEC) exists to support the Bishop of Madison in his mission to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to every heart across the diocese. Guided by the vision that “everyone in the diocese would hear every day a loving and gentle invitation to meet Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, in a life-changing way,” the OEC offers dynamic programs, resources, and formation to help individuals, families, and parishes grow as disciples.
Through youth events, adult faith formation, parish leadership support, marriage preparation, family ministry, and more, the OEC walks with Catholics of all ages and backgrounds on the journey of faith. Our goal is to inspire deeper relationship with Christ and equip the faithful for joyful, lifelong discipleship.
General description of what the OEC offers...

In addition, the university awards an accredited Master of Arts degree in Theology, a Bachelor of Arts in Theology Degree (degree-completion), the Catechetical Diploma, and an Advanced Catechist Certificate. Their continuing education three-week online interactive seminars are designed especially for catechists, Catholic schoolteachers, parishioners, parents, Catholic professionals, and all adults who are hungry for inspiring, faith-filled programs in fidelity to the Church’s authentic Magisterium. CDU specializes in learner-centered, collaborative online learning communities and has over twenty years of experience in distance learning.
Types of Programs: Online Master of Arts Degree in Theology, Bachelor of Arts in Theology Degree Completion Program, Catechetical Diploma, Advanced Catechist Certificate, and Adult/Catechist Faith Enrichment through online interactive seminars. All programs are administered through online and paper-based technologies. No residency required.
Cenacles are designed to meet the need for mentorship (peer-based) in helping parish leaders grow as disciples of Jesus in all areas of life. This happens through weekly meetings that include sharing in discussion, concrete goals for growth in ministry and personal life, as well as sharing of prayer intentions.

"Catechetical standards and benchmarks identify the expectations for the formation of Catholic youth and include specific grade level competencies that every youth should know and be able to demonstrate. They are intended to strengthen the partnership between the primary educators of children—the parents—and the supporting educators of children—Catholic parish and school personnel. These standards and benchmarks will assist parents and catechists to work together toward these learning competencies and the creative developing of different curriculum to ensure successful catechesis and thus, most naturally, a deeper communion and intimacy with Jesus Christ the Savior of the World."
– Most Reverend Robert C. Morlino, Letter Introducing Catechetical Standards (June 6, 2012)
In order to best complement our new PreK-8 Catechetical Standards, Bishop Morlino has identified four series of catechetical textbooks that will best assist our teachers and catechists in their generous efforts to hand on the faith to our K-8 students. The following constitute the approved list of textbook series for K-8 students in the Diocese of Madison. When your school or parish religious education program is purchasing new texts, please select from this list of textbook series. These selections remain the only full, basal text series authorized for purchase for our K-8 students in parishes and schools. As new materials are published by other companies and authors in the coming years, this list has the potential to change. A more detailed comparison between the textbook series can be found here.
Middle school and high school texts that are not in a K-8 program have not yet been reviewed and will be reviewed in this upcoming year. The recommendation of the OEC is to use the middle school books from the above list or wait to purchase (using what you have currently) until the middle school and high school texts have been reviewed by the OEC.
